Aug 19, 2010 - Sound itself is not a wave, but a bubble,. The sine wave is only the law of the energy. If you look at a 1 dimensional cut away of the side of the pattern in that bubble, the spaces between the areas where geometric patterns form is where the (~~~~~) wave part comes from. The pressures and vacuums are the high and low points of the wave. Sound does not travel in only one direction... but all directions at once. Check out cymatics if you wish to understand this better.

Aug 19, 2010 - If you where to look at that pattern from the top down.. you would see a beautiful geometric pattern filling in those valleys ~~ Like I said, the research of cymatics will show you this very clearly. These patterns also mirror the geometric structure found everywhere in nature.
