Jul 10, 2009 - Wow what a great video. What kind of clay did you use for it? Do you have one that is fired up, so we can see the final product?

Aug 9, 2009 - Nice work Dan, I love the shape.

Aug 26, 2009 - It is simply a joy to watch you at work. It also really makes me miss the pottery classes I took in college. Perhaps I should take a class again. Beautiful work!

Sep 27, 2009 - Dan, What temp do you fire to when you use an oxide in the slip what is the ratio of oxide to slip? Also, I assume it's a one time firing for these pots. Warm regards from Debbie in Sunny Florida

youdanxxx Says:

Sep 27, 2009 - Hi,we do a biscuit firing with an oxide slip then a glaze firing as with all the other stuff,so twice fired as normal. As for the ratio of oxide to slip it really depends on which oxide you use and how strong you want the colour to show through the glaze. We use anything from 2oz -8oz of oxide per half gallon of slip depending on what sort it is. Cheers,Dan.

Oct 16, 2009 - Dan...are you left handed or right handed? I just started throwing in my college class and im going to try your technique on centering. Does it matter what direction the wheel is spinning?

youdanxxx Says:

Oct 16, 2009 - I am left handed but I seem to throw right handed. Generally most wheels spin anti clockwise. So the clay is turning away from your hands and fingers rather than coming towards it. I tried to throw a pot once on a wheel spinning clockwise and couldn't make anything. Cheers,Dan.

Oct 29, 2009 - sweet power pull, man! Also, we just learned how to pull handles in class. I hated it!

smlonghorn Says:

Nov 15, 2009 - What did you band the pot with before putting the handles on?

Jan 16, 2010 - What a masterful first attempt! Keep the videos coming. As a student of pottery I am eager to hear some tips, tricks, and instruction while you are throwing. I see now that I need to improve the time it takes to throw a piece. I will try the Greek vase when next I throw. What an inspiration, thanks.

loris692 Says:

Jan 19, 2010 - The next day, inspired by this video, I threw a tall Greek vase. Quickness was key. Thanks for the lesson.

mtout21 Says:

Feb 9, 2010 - what clay body are you using??

Kevdog1800 Says:

Feb 10, 2010 - Couple quick things i noticed if you didn't know, or for those who may be watching. If you become off centered in the lip like the Amphora was at the very end, you can apply even pressure with you non-dominate hand - using your thumb and middle finger - to the lip, and press down gently with a finger on your dominate hand and it will force the clay to slowly move back onto center, or if you have enough clay you could just trim the top, although I don't like doing that.

4runnerMT Says:

Feb 11, 2010 - Thanks for the video! My wife and I were just reading about a potter in Jeremiah 18 with our 3-year old and she didn't understand. She found your video to be very instructive! :)

buddahdawg Says:

Feb 24, 2010 - what do you use as an adhesive for your joints? I noticed you don't score the pot or the handle, is the way you are doing it just as efficient, and strong?

darkempressdomain Says:

Feb 27, 2010 - Nice job! I'm trying to make these handles in class now! awesome...great job
