Carving - Ski Lesson

Added: Oct 24, 2007

From: MairKlaus

Duration: 5:48

This lesson is an introduction to carving for intermediate skiers. It should help people that have not discovered the edge yet to find this feeling. The main goal at this stage is to get the student NOT to turn his feet and slide but carve. To achieve this i am using more inside ski lead and hip counter than necessary as this makes the rolling of the knees easier. Once the student realizes that the skis turn all by themselves these things are reduced to the amount necessary. Instead of getting the student to edge by inclination - "leaning in" i stress the fundamental basic position. As i want to teach a technique which is consistent and works on the blues in the same way as on the black runs. The main ski fundamentals are described in detail in the 3 main lessons of the DVD. Furthermore you will find lessons on skiing the steeps, short turns and 14 additional drills: "Sofa Ski School - From Blue to Black Diamond" 84minutes of ski instruction 3 reminder cards for the slopes FREE worldwide shipping now available worldwide on: www.SofaSkiSchool.com .

Feb 1, 2010 - I've been having junior racers do this same drill but instead reach their opposite hand across the body to steer the knee. It seems to open the hips and orient shoulders down the fall line more. Comments?

Feb 2, 2010 - wow, this does not only look great, but it helped me finding out about better turns and bends. Last weekend I took another skiing lesson and the trainer told me to move all my weight on to the leg that is down the hill, i.e. outside the bend. I really had problems with that and felt uncomfortbale and sometimes unsafe. Now I know why. Your technique definitely makes sense and I'l try it next time :)

Feb 14, 2010 - gah the winter olympics make me wanna go skiiing and this makes me want to even more.i thought i was an intermediate at carving but wow im pretty amateur.i was only turning one knee in and the other one was straight like you would turn in hockey, and i didnt know you have to lean away from the turn a bit because i was turning into the turn and barely falling over.thanks for this.
