THE KWANZAA PEOPLE OF COLOR WITH AKIL. This video was shot in Leimert Park on a Sunday while the Sunday Drum Church aka Drum Circle was ending. Leimert Park is the place to be on a Sunday if you want your mind to be transported back to Africa while your body is dancing to the djembes and dunduns orchestrated by Master Drummer Najite Agindotan who is also the leader of the Nijite & Olokun Prophecy a popular Afro-Beat Band. Akil is one of the young Elders of the Los Angeles African/Kemetian Community. He was there in the 60's and 70's movements and has a vast knowledge of those times. In the video, Alik gives a shout-out to Ayuko Babu, the Founder/Executive Director of the Los Angeles/Atlanta/Burkina Faso based Pan African Film & Arts Festival. Alik has also written several booklets on the African experience in the world. His latest booklet is: KIDOGOO MAAT, which is about the Restoration Festival. This booklet and other information and be purchased by conducting Akil at the following email addresses: akilekk@yahoo.com or kwanzaaman@yahoo.com

Sep 14, 2008 - Edog388, If you ever get a chance to speak with Akil, it will be a learning experience as you see in this impromptu video. All I needed to do was to turn the camera on and get out of his way and make sure I stayed in focus.

Sep 14, 2008 - akwaabaSankofa My friend I've been speaking with this brother all my life, I'm blessed to have him as my blood brother. That is why I can say that he is the true founder of the Kwanzzaa Parade in Leimert Park. His story should be told. What ever is there during Kwanzzaa is only because of Akile. Let no one tell you different. His experience was seen through my eyes. You should do a short film on parade.
