Nov 11, 2008 - I'm pretty sure american beauty is tying with the shawshank redemption in terms of incredible movie endings. they both carry the heaviest of messages delivered with such simplicity.

Nov 13, 2008 - Best movie ending ever. I love the part where he says "and Janie....And Janie" You can tell he was really reflecting on the love he had for his daughter.

Nov 14, 2008 - hey, jadefalcon5, i agree with you. and along the movies you mentioned, I would also add the ending of One Flew Over The Cuckoo`s Nest - it`s just as great as these ones. ... I watch the ending of Amrican Beauty very often and ... I don`t have words just to say...

Nov 15, 2008 - when the boy nd the girl r in bed 2gther is that a gunshot that i can hear?

myownstars Says:

Nov 15, 2008 - yeah. the gunshot replays a few times so you can see everyone's reactions.

Nov 16, 2008 - I don't exactly know what goes on in your brain when a bullet just went through it but that was one helluva movie and he's got God's talent, no doubt.

Nov 16, 2008 - I cried so much in this movie-it is my favorite of all time [seen it 5 time ]

dipsticklooneypie Says:

Nov 16, 2008 - okay

gasfarty Says:

Nov 16, 2008 - Wow, every cliche in the universe about modern suburban life for alluent whites all in one movie -- mid-life crisis, dickhead bosses, harpie wife, mopey daughter, weird kid next door, closeted gay guy.

quwad Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - So strong and it states the obvious. We never come to think about these things, but it happens. I'm not sure who the director/ writer was, but all I know is this- they have some goddam talent.

Nov 19, 2008 - I've just seen the moovie on tv...simply moving, I'm crying..

MaX1MuS2k7 Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - I noticed that too

gregingram1970 Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - cliche? or an ecclectic mix of cinematic poetry? if you know movies, as i do, you will obviously be in the know that this is the best contemporary film to date. i prefer to view this film as 1)a critique of the american dream 2)do not be a victim of consumerism as it steals the real 'bits' of what a fulfilling life should. Its a unique film with unique performances. if ever there was a thought provoking film, its this.

Sean2122dd Says:

Nov 20, 2008 - alan ball wrote this, simply amazing, he hasnt written for film since, only plays and television. did you know that he originally wrote it as a play but he decided to make it a movie - i wonder what it would be like as a play...

ccjohn Says:

Nov 20, 2008 - That is the entire point. In the middle of total banality, there is such a thing as beauty. All the characters know they are estranged from something more. The kid next door is beginning to understand it, but in the end only Lester is gathered in by it. American Beauty is a satire of satires. Unlike irony it is not ultimately afraid of meaning. It is the greatest American film.

himynameisroman Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - waIT SO WHO KILLED HIM?

brewcity8 Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - the neighbor

marinellic Says:

Nov 21, 2008 - great ending. great movie

Nikki817 Says:

Nov 22, 2008 - His wife thought he killed himself and picked up the gun and threw it in the laundry bin, however, his neighbor killed him because he thought that Kevin Spacey (the character) had "corrupted" his son into being gay, but they, Kevin and the son, were both heteros!

Nikki817 Says:

Nov 22, 2008 - There is a God/creator, that's what this movie is about

gregingram1970 Says:

Nov 22, 2008 - This is the best film ever made. Let me make that clear and Il tell you why i belive it. I think the characters, are so well brought to life. I can identify with Lesters feelings of displacement and fragmentation. He is wondering why he has the job he has and it dawned on him that it is not fulfilling.

gregingram1970 Says:

Nov 22, 2008 - Carolyn Burnham is the status obsessed ass that lives in most of streets these days:middle class Mrs keeping up with the jonses. Materialism and consumed at being a consumer...but not aware of her 'condition' - thats one of the things Lester realised that his wife never.

gregingram1970 Says:

Nov 22, 2008 - In fact, thats the root of the movie. The american dream doesnt bring happyness, mabye wealth, but, at what cost? You realise the day you die because having stuff only remains in the memory a short time but significant people stay with you forever.

gregingram1970 Says:

Nov 22, 2008 - Humour: this has so many themes of suburban life orchestrated from start to end and its highlighted in the funniest ways...the drive in? It was the excuse he needed to end the eggshell marriage.

gregingram1970 Says:

Nov 22, 2008 - for me, this film wouldnt have been what it was for kevin spacey. Im grateful for this as it is a milestone in my life. as lover of the cinema, it touched me in a 'spiritual way' or somewhere in my mind that made me appreciate having less to be more content.
