May 20, 2007 - Thank you so much for this video. I am trying to implement the Montessori method with my infant (9 month) now and it is pretty easy and challenging at the same time. There are no Montessori schools around us. I do have one question: How does one go about obtaining Montessori educational materials without taking themselves to the poor-house? I want to homeschool my child so that she can benefit from the Montessori method but cannot afford most of the materials. Should I just give up?

May 23, 2007 - thanks for this beautiful video where the chosen music makes it even more a touching moment. I'm a Montessori teatcher and i'm so proud to know and share this teaching method. Hi to all the Montessorian !

Jun 8, 2007 - You should not buy Montessori materials to use at home. The philosophy is much more important than the materials, and those that you could use you could make yourself. Read "Montessori from the Start," a great book for Montessori parents. Definitely don't try to build a classroom in your home unless you are planning on enrolling other children. You'll spend THOUSANDS and your daughter will still be missing out on the more important social aspects of the Montessori philosophy.
krissiiiii Says:
Jun 8, 2007 - Please explain what you mean by that. I don't know how you can say that of someone when you admit yourself that you have not actually READ her work. And she did not teach anthropology.
krissiiiii Says:
Jun 8, 2007 - You're right, a Montessorian would not do what that teacher was doing.

Jun 8, 2007 - Thank you for the book suggestion I will definately look into getting a copy of it. Enrolling other children, hmmmmm, the thought did cross my mind I am going to look into seeing what it takes to become a Montessori trained teacher (I forget what Montessorians call them) and see if it is a possibilitly to start a school. There are a few down here (texas) but none where I am at and none that I know of that goes even through elementary school much less high school.

Jun 11, 2007 - of course she did teach anthropologie on universitiy!!!how you came to the idea she was not???her thoughts are horrible. ( craniology and stuff)you have to look at her speeches!everytime she was talking to people she told them what they wanted to hear!her thoughts where sometimes to simple.inform about her anthropology.
krissiiiii Says:
Jun 11, 2007 - Yes, she gave lectures to anthropologists, and wrote a book "pedagogial anthropology," which referred to her teaching method, but I would not say that she is thought of primarily as an anthropology teacher. You still have not answered my question. You only use words like "horrible" that aren't very descriptive. Considering she tought during the early 1900s and was way ahead of her time in many ways waht do you MEAN specifically by saying that her "thoughts are horrible"?

Aug 23, 2007 - Want smart education? Then empower kids to learn how to be entrepreneurs early on in life. Schools should teach the subject, after all these kids are either going to work for a company (profit or non profit) or create their own path by owning businesses. Let's really teach them real life lessons. Why do we still have to follow the industrial age style of education while we are in digital, service- oriented age?

Oct 12, 2007 - "Illiterates escape certain temptations, such as vacuous and vicious reading. Perhaps we are prone to put too high a value both upon the ability required to attain this art and the discipline involved in doing so." G. Stanley Hall, creator of the 'look-say' reading system e.g. 'Dick and Jane' which was designed to break down sound/symbol relationships by having the child guess at the whole word.

Oct 30, 2007 - I was about to comment on that. I am glad to see i wasnt the only one who noticed. Overall though it was a great video. I am a parent looking into alternative teaching methods for my son.

Feb 7, 2008 - biz4kids,Not sure if you're asking about Montessori as an "industrial age style of education" or not. I would like to point out if you think Montessori does not prepare people for a digital, service-oriented age, be sure to google the names "Larry Page" and "Sergey Brin," both of whom have said how Montessori was beneficial to them. I could discuss others, but since you mentioned the digital age, those are two you may want to take a closer look at.

Mar 2, 2008 - anyone could give me a montessori GRADUATION THEME? I'll appreciate any response..i will owe you big time. Thanks so much..
MattBronsil Says:
Mar 8, 2008 - My favorite graduations have always been child-centered. Make them short and sweet. Introduce the child. Talk about Montessori and how it has helped the children and how they have grown up the past several years. Thank the parents, then let the children play on the playground. Doing too much tends to put the focus off the child.
