Nov 13, 2008 - so... since when would we need a robot that plays the violin when you could hire me

Nov 13, 2008 - so whats impressive about a robot programmed to move a certain way to make music. It's kind of disgusting i think music is man kinds crowning achievement we create it from our emotions and parts of brains we barely understand. to give that power to a machine that can only do what its told it's kind of a waste

Nov 14, 2008 - i didn't hear any vibrato. I don't like this, there was absolutely no emotion when it was playing.
Kupo101 Says:
Nov 14, 2008 - spoilers: it's a robot

Nov 14, 2008 - First we give them the ability to play violin, then they kill us all.

Nov 14, 2008 - I must admit, it is amazing to see a robot playing a violin but in the 60's there were wind up toy monkeys that played a drum and or a symbol. The point I am making is, the robots finger are in a fixed jointless position other than the main knuckles. I want to see a robot with full articulate hand and finger motion play a violin, this is certainly a step in right direction, must have cost them a fortune, nice to know how much they profit off of car sales, pour that money into hydrogen research.
REDredy Says:
Nov 15, 2008 - Well, if they manage do it, they can sell it for a reasonable price (in the future) and program it so that it plays music the owner wrote, or music they enjoy. Many see it as impressive due to the fact that it's a step further into the complicated science and programming of robots. If they can have robots that do many different things, they will have a robot that can do multiple tasks.

Nov 15, 2008 - Really? I didn't notice that!!
Edward1589 Says:
Nov 15, 2008 - The robot is playing one of the Pomp and Circumstance Marches!! Check out Accept - Pomp And Circumstance (metal/rock band of the 80s) Amazing. :O Shame that even after viewing this some people stay skeptic for whatever reason they posses or post outright ignorant and/or provocative comments. This is the future, you are not in it, if you continue your logical fallacy.
beaneeeer Says:
Nov 15, 2008 - dude thats awesome

Nov 15, 2008 - "whats impressive about a robot programmed to move a certain way to make music?" It,s impressive because it takes extreme precision and fine control to move that way. These robots are masterpieces of assembly and programming. Fine, precise movement is important in robots because their use is spreading into finer realms of manufacturing and even into surgery. No one is trying to replace musicians. Get off your high horse, don't be so ignorant. btw: SYNTHESIZERS are emotionless machines too
overthewoods Says:
Nov 15, 2008 - soon we will have a robotic orcristra
