But I find ironic Zappa fans discount the sheer potency of the Beatles creative output, is either socially motivated (to fit in with over-thinking uber-zealot college students), or politically motivated. Zappa was a Liberal Socialist. When musicians run with the rhinos I flinch. All I hear is Zappa recreating the Beatles. He's no Miles Davis. But I never understood or "got" Zappa. That's why I think he appeals to a certain intelligentsia that appreciates tone deaf music.

Nov 1, 2008 - I agree with you about blurring the lines of politik w/ musical creativity but too say Zappa appealed to tone deaf music aficionados is ridiculous. Maybe you don't understand his appreciation of the dissonance he used in some compositions which was rooted in 20th century composers like Varese or Stravinsky, which are a matter of taste, but it's not fair to make generalizations based on one element of his composition style.
