If the American people are even on the radar screen I would be surprised. People seem to be very interested in electing the politicians that rob them the most. All the rules that control greed have been dismantled and replaced with the values that any excess is acceptable in the name of profit. And that is not free trade ( Animal Farm ).

If we want to debate which president exercised the most extensive reach of his executive powers under particular circumstances and then make judgments, that one will take some substantial research. Keep in mind, when Lincoln made his decisions, there no way to tell at the time if he was right or wrong. Hindsight and time has judged him.

Nov 2, 2008 - i disagree. the white house, at the behest of that pygmy cheney, has used any and every excuse it can to get its executive power-hungry hands on more and more power, to the exclusion of the other branches of government. google david addington if you need further proof of that. cheney wants to alter the succession of power in the event of a catastrophe that takes the president out of the equation, to by-pass the articulated order and give the office of the vice-president full authority.
