loveclevelandohio Says:

Sep 15, 2008 - Just think how great he'd be if he didn't suffer the car accident he got into before his big tour.

pokbacsi100 Says:

Sep 21, 2008 - Django Reinhardt was doing some Rock 'n Roll riffing back in the 30's and 40's within the context of Jazz. The typical back and forth between 5ths and 6ths was already used by him in certain pieces.Of course the Swing feel was copped from the Jazzers of that era too. The soloing style of mixing open strings with fretted notes was also mined by Django although he played many Metal type lines as well influencing Les Paul who was also playing some "Rock" before the media began promoting it as such.

pokbacsi100 Says:

Sep 21, 2008 - Back in the Swing era, Blues was often mixed with Jazz, so those motifs, riffs, and progressions typical of Blues which influenced Rock can be found in the Jazz of that era too, and many standards were worked out in several genres including Bluegrass and Country. Of course Jazz was influenced by Euro Folk as well as Classical, so it's safe to say all those genres influenced Rock even as early as its birth. Paganini is often cited as the 1st true Rocker if you will because of his onstage persona.

burnette44 Says:

Sep 23, 2008 - He WAS the King of Rockabilly, no one has ever touched him (incl. Elvis in his prime on SUN!) and no one has and will most likely never even come close! A BIG influence on my own music, for sure and one of the very few of the original 50's cats that could still rock until the end!

LynchburgSourMash Says:

Sep 23, 2008 - Couldn't have put it better myself, LONG LIVE the music and spirits of the Perkins bros. from Jackson TN //L.S.M.

SwampDaddy7 Says:

Oct 17, 2008 - That's cause in the Rock N' Roll world, he did it first. It was an old Delta Blues tune Carl hopped up to be a Rockabilly hit.

loveclevelandohio Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - Matchbox was NOT written by Perkins but based on a song by Blind Lemon Jefferson. Perkins was one of the greatest guitarplayers from those days!

heyzog Says:

Dec 24, 2008 - Dudes!!!! This is an ancient song like they all are. Carl just did his thing, but that gold Gibson and guitar work in 1955/56 were like Page in 74 or whomever now!
