Antonov 225 Departure, Manchester Airport

Antonov 225 - After her being here for a few days, it was time for her to go. Apparently the tow bar snapped on push back so we were waiting for a while, but it was well worth getting soaked to watch it. Not quite sure the reasons for its strange taxi route to 24L, note the lead car guiding the way.

Jan 26, 2008 - How many of these were built and how many are still in service? Awesome airplane. I thought the Lockheed C5 Galaxy was pretty awesome but this thing is in a league all to itself. Hell, it probably has its own timezone. Half of its weight at takeoff is probably fuel.

Jan 26, 2008 - This is the only one in the world. A second one is currently under construction, but whether or not it will be completed is a different story. On a full load it can way up to 600tons as far as I know. its Length is 275ft and wingspan 290ft. Truely the worlds largest aircraft

Feb 14, 2008 - your right Walshy, it was taking stage equipment to Africa, i am lead to beleive it was the stage gear of Beyonce and another top U.S male music artist either Nelly or Jay-z after their gig at the M.E.N. As for the strange route it was because it was the only safe taxi way, any other and it would have clipped other jets.great vid.

Mar 24, 2008 - This is the only time the Antonov 225 has ever been to Manchester Airport. There has been know indication of the aircraft making a return any time soon.
