ONE MAN MULTI MEDIA THEATRE SHOW Love Monkey is set in an old hotel in Ireland, its narrator is a night porter who spends each night vacuuming thousands of square feet of hotel carpet. While he vacuums his only company is the grossly obese bell captain, a style conscious India hospitality student and his own morbid imagination. Throughout the night he talks of losing his teeth at drug crazed parties, the pain and loss of past girlfriends, his obsession with Captain Ahab walking the ocean floors and an all women circus troupe he has plans to hook up with once he free and out of debt. This is the very situation the author found himself a number of years of ago when realising the need to remove himself far way from his own comfort zone. Primarily to get over a sour love affair, a few professional failures as well as with the same desperation the real desire to write about something fresh. This great plan he managed to avoid superbly by running half way around the world pleasuring himself, causing further harm to himself as well as to others and it had to stop. Inadvertently these wretched diversions financially forced him eventually to take on a job where all he could do was face his demons. The day before boxing day in 2005 when the Tsunami broke John-Paul Hussey took on the task of cleaning a hotel. At the time it sounded simple, noble even, working at night on his own, the only responsibility being to clean and a chance to focus and hopefully rid himself on the poisonous thoughts filling his head. Three months of honest work to emerge cleaner, lighter and ready to face the sun again. Others higher up though, both real and imagined the captains had other ideas and what unfurls is a modern Jonah story delivering the same timely message the only true evil in this world is denial. All these autobiographical stories told from this ghostly hotel as an interconnecting meditation on the poetic qualities of water, intoxication, the moon, revenge, misery and biblical-like destruction etc. A possible clue slowly emerges to why this lonely porter dutifully waits each night for the captains in all their different guises to arrive and speak of the mysteries of 'The Great Watery Cup of Love'..
