Jun 2, 2008 - I want to thank all of you for the very nice comments. Betty Swann (Betty Jean Barton) is my mother and I showed her this site and she is very happy with the positive comments made by you. Her maiden name was Champion before she married my father George. My father died in 1981 and the best thing about my mother is that even tho life is difficult she still has that warm smile and grace of a beautiful person. I will post more comments later on this woman who taught me to be a man. Thanks.

Jun 15, 2008 - Phillip, I am glad to read that you are finding that your mom is a gem in many people's hearts. When this song came out in 1967 I remember that a family who lived in the next buidling from us use to blast her stereo with this song. My mom finally bought it. Your mom did a great job on this song.

Jun 15, 2008 - Phillip022564, I enjoy music from various artists. Only the music of Linda Jones & Betty Swann does not get old on me. I was born the year they both released their biggest hits, '67. Often I've wondered if there is something mystical connected to that.

Jun 15, 2008 - Phillip022564, Anyway, I have exhausted the internet attempting to get my hands on a copy of "Victim of a Foolish Heart" as far as I know, it did not appear on any album/CD, but was a 45. Would you have any idea where I can come across this --even the wax, I'll have it converted.

Jun 21, 2008 - My mother sings just as beautiful now as she ever did. Thank you for your comments. I told her and she says thank you also. As a child I knew my mom was special but being a young person I didn't really apreciate her music as I should have. I'm trying to make up for that now and have learned to show it more. She really is a beautiful person. Thanks again. Thanks Vincent50! pieroangelo1 : Keep em' coming! you've done a great job!

Jul 3, 2008 - One of my top 3 favorite songs of all-time. Phillip, God bless you and your mother. I was 16 years old when this song was released, and it really exploded in LA, thanks to KGFJ. I will confidently speak for all of Los Angeles and say we will forever love you both.

Phillip022564 Says:

Jul 3, 2008 - wedge4hire : You are very welcome and thanks you for your kind words! I remember being backstage when my mother and father took me on road with them and I pretended to play the drums as she sang on stage. It was different then and sometimes artists would take their children with them. I remember sitting with a R C Cola and chips while they rehearsed. I had fun and wouldn't change anything except the time I beat the chrome off my dads Cadillac! I didn't know pops could run that fast!

Phillip022564 Says:

Jul 3, 2008 - wedge4hire : I meant to say mom thanks you for your kind words! (sorry!)

Aug 7, 2008 - Phillip022564, that's a great story about the assault of the chrome on your Dad's Caddy. You must have been quite strong because chrome, in those days, was far superior to the kind produced today! Hope everything is well and take care.

Gotta dance. lol Knew all the words &we all sang along. Thanks Betty for bringing joy to troubled times -war,poverty, racism. Betty, only thing that's changed is that we don't hear you on the airwaves as much. Come on, my sweet Betty. We need you today. And all this from a 58 year old white man. Love you Betty. Love you lots!!!!

Sep 5, 2008 - I remember being a little girl 8 years old when this song came out. I want to say that it was in the summer. I loved the song now just as much as I did than. The only thing is that I never knew all the lyrics. So, being the little kid that I was, I would make some of them up (whatever I thought that she was singing) Would someone, anyone please post the lyrics for me so I can really sing the entire song the way that it's supposed to be sung?

Sep 8, 2008 - I know for a fact how kind and talented Betty is. I was hired to be her maid/wardrobe assistant/chauffeur back in 1967. I was working at the Sheraton Boston Hotel as a maid/housekeeper and was the assigned to the floor where she and her, then manager, George Barton had their rooms (she and he had separate rooms). She was on a tour for the Stax Recording company along with Otis Redding, Arthur Conley, The Manhattens, Betty Wright, and others.

MsJaxxee Says:

Sep 8, 2008 - Part 2 I was the maid who cleaned their rooms when they were in Boston, and while doing so, got to talking to George, who said Betty needed someone to assist her with driving (Bettye had a new Cadillac) and with her wardrobe while she was touring. While George and I was talking, Bettye came in and I was introduced to her. They hired me that same day and when they checked out, I quit my job and left the Sheraton Hotel that same day, driving their Cadillac.

MsJaxxee Says:

Sep 8, 2008 - Part 3 Betty is a very warm, gentle and kind person. When the tour reached Atlanta, GA, I left Betty and George to go to Jacksonville FL to see about my grandmother who'd become ill. My sister, Margaret, later, took my place after that, and even moved to Texas as a part of the job. Betty and George got married. My sister loved Betty and George; and many years later had a daughter whom she named Adrena. Betty knows why Margaret named her daughter "Adrena."
