Aug 20, 2008 - wow dean must be a pretty awesome guy but i have one question how are you typing o;? (NOT TRYING TO SAY YOUR NOT AN AMPUTEE JUST CURIOUS)

changofree Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - I am missing one arm ..not both. I have a left hand to type with. lost my rt.arm in 1989 saving a girl from being raped by 4 guys, butcher knives cut my arm up pretty bad..the vain they took from my leg and put in my arm collapsed. arm got gain green. 6 operations later i had the choice of a very chewed up arm or amputate. I chose amputation. they left all the nerves in my arm incase science ever caught up enough that i might be able to use the nerves for future prostheses.

Qbranch1024 Says:

Sep 6, 2008 - Wow... it moves so well and weighs so little. I think it's a winner!

DR000 Says:

Sep 9, 2008 - Wow, you're a hero man.

Koofteh Says:

Sep 13, 2008 - Much more useful than his other famous invention, the Segway. How are people going to afford this though? It's probably going to cost them hundreds of millions to outfit all 1600 Iraq war amputees.

huashuashuashu Says:

Sep 14, 2008 - omg i just thought of something. without arms u cant wank! fark

Shadowfox501 Says:

Sep 16, 2008 - I swear if only there were more people like u, this world would be a much better place for everyone

Draxius Says:

Sep 16, 2008 - I think all military amputees need them. Even the new ones, they sacrificed their bodies and lives for their country. I think they deserve it.

Maximillion51 Says:

Sep 16, 2008 - I THINK ITS INE STEP CLOSER tO a HUMAN BRAIN IN A TITANIUM CRANIUM AND VERTABRE WITH HUMAN CYBORG ARMS CONECTED DIRECTLY TO THE NERVOUS SYSTEM AND LIFFE EXTENTYION OF HUNDREDS OF YEARS FOR THE SUPER WEATHY ..:

tincan77 Says:

Sep 19, 2008 - Modular - does that mean that there are options for awesome attachments? like drills, guns, swords, etc?? Man, if i were and amputee, I'd try to add all sorts of cool shit to my luke arm....

ToothyMcshark Says:

Sep 21, 2008 - The interview is much too quiet. Could have used more light on the amputee as well.

lazychump Says:

Sep 21, 2008 - A bet after a few weeks of practice, your mind just assimilates it, and all the little foot switches and controls just become second nature. Too fucking cool.

AutoStigmata Says:

Sep 23, 2008 - I hope they don't try and keep people in the military after they've lost a limb

pierremcneil Says:

Sep 25, 2008 - WHO KNOWS WHERE THIS WILL LEAD...

ke422azn Says:

Oct 3, 2008 - This guy Dean Kamen gave a presentation today at my work Abbott. It was amazing.

vailyboy Says:

Oct 10, 2008 - god.....just 5 years ago an arm powered by nerves seemed like it would be 500 years away. technology is amazing.

apogist Says:

Oct 12, 2008 - now it's waiting for a brain controlled artificial arm

BonusRoundTube Says:

Oct 13, 2008 - already done.

apogist Says:

Oct 15, 2008 - Do you mean Jesse sullivan? It is true he moves his arm by "thinking" of it, but it goes via his chest muscle. His remaining arm nerves are attached to his chestmuscle. That muscle contracts or relaxes at certain places. Ofcourse the effect is the same as "brain control" but the brain has no "direct" link to the bionic arm. The arm moves by sensors which register muscle contractions of the chest. There are however some tests with a monkey where brain waves are registered by a chip in the brains.

DeimosSaturn Says:

Oct 17, 2008 - So it was the defense department...not prayers or donations from churches or miracles from god. Just so we are clear, Science and engineering has done what every religion has failed to do. But, i wouldn't put it past some smarmy scummy pastor to say god gave back the missing limb by working through people....I'm willing to bet money that Dean Kamen, this philanthropist, genius, humanitarian, has no belief in a god.

Julyguzman Says:

Oct 21, 2008 - your simply the best!!!!!keep going guys, just keep going, and my congratulations for you, and of course thanks for developed it!!

Oct 28, 2008 - The narrator's voice sounds like Katherine Heigl.

VodeoJMC63 Says:

Oct 30, 2008 - That's amazing!

260191894 Says:

Oct 31, 2008 - wow!!! Imagine: there's also motor neural implants successfully working with monkeys that control these arms. The chip decodes the info generated by the motor cortex (brain) and sends it to the arms. The monkey was able to reach for a banana when it saw one! So, within less than 20 years, people could control these arms with their brain as normal arms! I learned that while doing my neuroscience degree! science rocks!!
