Sep 24, 2008 - You're a complete and utter idiot if you think I'm racist. I have always had plenty of friends of all races. It is not race/color that I have something against, but rather laziness and ignorance, something that I have found in ALL races, including white. It is people's own fault to be in the situation they're in, I know this as a fact. I have had multiple people admit that they're in the situation they are because they were too lazy to get a better job or go to school.
misegades Says:
Sep 24, 2008 - So don't you dare give me the "racist" label. I work hard for what little I have, it is not too much to ask for other people to work for themselves. Poverty, 99% of the time, is self-induced. In the USA, everyone has the chance to improve their lifestyle, all it requires is hard work. Same for education...actually, it's easier for a minority. There are scholarships for blacks and hipanics...where are the scholarships for white people? Oh wait, that'd be racism.
deadspoken Says:
Sep 24, 2008 - Don't call me an idiot. It's perfectly natural to assume from your first comment, which was primarily directed against blacks and hispanics, to assume that you have something against blacks and hispanics. Secondly, not 99% of poverty is self induced. I agree, there are plenty of people who could get jobs and save themselves from their situation. But thats not the point of this song, this song is for the other people in America who are actually unable to lift themselves from poverty.
viciousanabear Says:
Sep 27, 2008 - I do love this version very much. trentreznoramazingg<;3
STE7EN77 Says:
Sep 28, 2008 - he played this in dublin with a big smile on his face a while back... place went crazy :) best show ever
parrecords Says:
Sep 29, 2008 - It's a song about a riot in Ireland between Nationalists and Monarchists in the 70's
deadspoken Says:
Sep 29, 2008 - I believe we've been over this. The U2 version is in fact about that song. Saul's version is different, because he intends it to be different, and thus it has a different meaning. In this case, a metaphor for poverty in America.
xburial Says:
Oct 1, 2008 - you're a complete and utter idiot if you think posting "You mean the minorities like Blacks and Hispanics basically having everything handed to them?" won't give off a racist impression on the internet.
metallica002 Says:
Oct 2, 2008 - I don't like this version he has taken away the meaning of a brilliant song and i don't think he sings it well enough i mean think about it this song is made about an important date in irish history 7 british spies are killed and then the brits open fire in the middle of a gaa gaelic football match and you can't change the meaning this is just my opinion so don't give me a thumbs down
BossyChick Says:
Oct 3, 2008 - He came to MSU! I am so proud of him, he sounds so good On the rotation! Love you Saul!!
kaiashu Says:
Oct 8, 2008 - i personally like his version better than U2's. i feel like it has WAY more passion.
Jonaahoofd Says:
Oct 10, 2008 - This sucks, The U2 version is much better!
the2coreys Says:
Oct 18, 2008 - loves it.
GeekusExtremus Says:
Oct 22, 2008 - I can really feel the message when Saul sings it. I feel like i want to take arms after listening to this. Now the government will flag this video.
Toblerown Says:
Oct 25, 2008 - Three days, the government hasn't flagged anything.
imsneakersotoole Says:
Oct 26, 2008 - Bono has said over and over it's a protest song in general. It's named after a massacre in Derry in 1972 but he's used it over and over in different contexts singing about different massacres in Ireland by different groups of people, the British Army, the IRA, and others. If U2 want to use it as a general "protest song" it makes sense if other want to do the same.
imsneakersotoole Says:
Oct 26, 2008 - That was a reply to an earlier comment someone made; it seems a little random now lol. Some people seem to insist it's a song about Ireland, it can be used as a general protest song quite easily.
ItLiesInTheProles Says:
Nov 4, 2008 - I do totally understand where people are coming from when they say it's lost it's power, because Bono famously has been incredibly emotional in his live gigs. But Saul obviously appreciates how powerful a song is, and tries to push it in a different direction to an equally important issue. Please remember that bands/artists don't always have a say in their videos. As for the new sound, it's Trent Reznor's doing more than Saul's. if you have beef with Trent I'll go nuts.
Sithis007 Says:
Nov 9, 2008 - Crap Cover!! like every cover done no cover will ever be as good as the original!
OptimoPEACHES Says:
Nov 11, 2008 - U2 sucks.
skii6868 Says:
Nov 14, 2008 - Terrible cover. And my opinion has nothing to do with race, religion or other. This is just plain bad.
LoBoktj Says:
Nov 25, 2008 - great song and great cover!
ocleirigh86 Says:
Nov 30, 2008 - Oh Saul, what on earth are you doing? Jaysus that's desperate
ThreeInchNails Says:
Dec 4, 2008 - The whole point with covers is to do a version that's your own. It's no fun with covers that sounds exactly like the original.
deadspoken Says:
Sep 24, 2008 - Nope same one. Its also the USA that houses racist gits like yourself.
