Personally, I feel that putting away criminals at all costs (even if it risks public safety somewhat), is vital to deterring further crime. After all, if the police fail frequently, criminals will know this and might soon regard law enforcement as nothing more than a minor nuisance rather than someone to be feared.

No matter what car the police have if a criminal is prepared to get away at all costs then it can be difficult to keep up. The police will try and avoid causing any damage to there cars so won't drive through the woods at top speed! As for US cops. We've all watched Worlds Wildest Police Chases! They're not the most organised bunch, are they?
