Chemistry 3B: Chemical Structure and Reactivity. Spring 2006. Professor Peter Vollhardt. Chemistry 3B represents the second semester of the standard organic chemistry series at UC Berkeley. It covers conjugation, aromatic chemistry, carbonyl compounds, carbohydrates, amines, carboxylic acids, amino acids, peptides, proteins, and nucleic acid chemistry. Ultraviolet spectroscopy and mass spectrometry will be introduced. Organic chemistry is a specific discipline within the subject of chemistry. It is the scientific study of the structure, properties, composition, reactions, and preparation of chemical compounds of carbon and hydrogen, which may contain any number of other elements, such as nitrogen,...

Oct 4, 2007 - Wow now I can go to an Ivy League college.. for free.

peacetoker Says:

Oct 5, 2007 - UC Berkeley isn't Ivy league...

steelystan Says:

Oct 6, 2007 - I know.. you passed the test.

marcevans22 Says:

Oct 6, 2007 - wow. I have no idea what he is talking about

commanderak Says:

Nov 13, 2007 - Can someone explain me why at 8:30 in the blue aromatic ring of the product, the double bound is "the point of the arrow", while before the reaction it is directly opposite the double bound that is sprung open. This blue double bound is clearly not involved in the reaction, so why would it change position?

ssorenn Says:

Dec 9, 2007 - aha, yes...reactivity of the alkene when hydrogenial bromination of eletrophynic additions occur, yes

SultanAlotaibi Says:

Dec 23, 2007 - hi guys>> some shocking info about iron >> just copy this ( The mystery in Iron Miracle of the Quran ) and paste it in the blank and see what has been said they said it's a miracle,, have a good day.. :)

wolfhunter0321 Says:

Jan 4, 2008 - If UCB is not Ivy league, then what league is it? How, could any school, other than Jules Vern's school of fish be in a league without being all wet? :)

Jan 24, 2008 - The mystery in Iron Miracle of the Quran

UruEco Says:

Jan 31, 2008 - wow . i like this I can learn so much here

Mar 9, 2008 - Interesting vid. Thanks for posting it.

eldali180 Says:

Mar 20, 2008 - thank you ucberkeley you are great

pirejknf Says:

Mar 27, 2008 - Yes, I think it looks like they made a pedagogical mistake. But I don´t think it matters that much for the actual product, since it is symmetrical.

frontin2438 Says:

Apr 1, 2008 - maybe not like the traditional east coast ivy league schools but UCLA and UCB are easily competing and becoming pseudo ivy league universities in the west coast. Don't disregard these great universities just because they werent founded in colonial times or from the east coast

tinobeanoweano Says:

Apr 29, 2008 - Brilliant , Just Brilliant ! !!

luvmonkey666 Says:

May 23, 2008 - could someone tell me how i can seperate NaCl (salt) to just get Cl and then maybe make it into a liquid for cheap pool chlorine

Associatedfan Says:

Jun 23, 2008 - UCB where is lecture 1 and 2 ?

charliepeke Says:

Jul 20, 2008 - Yes. The Ivy League is actually an athletic league, like the Pac 10 or Big 10. Berkeley is more prestigious than many Ivy League schools. Maybe I'm showing my Alum pride, but you can check the academic reputation in U.S. News and World Report.

charliepeke Says:

Jul 20, 2008 - U.C. Berkeley is Pac 10. Their academic and sports rival is Stanford, which is also Pac 10.

azngamer828 Says:

Jul 24, 2008 - I am not sure if this is right. But dont you mix it with water to make NaCl dissolve making the Na fuse with OH. I wasnt sure if thats rite. sorry

ItamiHikari Says:

Oct 29, 2008 - I guess you could dissolve it in water and then use electrolysis to gather Cl-anions at the cathode... there is an electrolytic cell on the market which is especially made for cleaning salt water swimming pools. It works marvelously. Maybe you can try that out...?

Jacknast08 Says:

Nov 5, 2008 - Maybe electrochemically. But it is much cheaper to just buy the stuff

luvmonkey666 Says:

Nov 6, 2008 - well bags of salt are alot cheaper than pool chlorine

mehdan2 Says:

Nov 17, 2008 - I think this is in Latimer 102. Cool place.

boybrolic Says:

Nov 23, 2008 - You will not use these rxns in med school. THANK GOD I made it through orgo though! As long as you familiar with orgo that's all you need to get by. Even then, the only time you'll see anything relating to orgo will be in pharm. That said, enjoy your orgo! HEHE!
