Sep 27, 2008 - I had a discussion with a native speaker from China (Shanghai) about this... he was convinced my boyfriend spoke "Cantonese" since there was no such thing as "Taiwanse" I believe it's not a language, but it's definitely a distinct dialect like a southern accent as they drop h's in words and pronounce some tones differently for ex: xian1sheng would be pronounced xian1sheng1, both 1st tones rather than one with a neutral tone.
