atgskater14 Says:
Mar 7, 2010 - yawn whats so special about him john entwistle was so much better
bassist4lif31 Says:
Mar 8, 2010 - umm that wasnt a solo, that was just some cute little rhythym he prolly made up. real bassists do NOT use a pick
SLAAAASH1 Says:
Mar 9, 2010 - not really it doesnt matter if you use a pick or use ur fingers its sounds more natural to me when you use ur fingers but it doesnt mean u suck if u use a pcik many have
13thMonsterpiece Says:
Mar 9, 2010 - Using a pick or not have nothing to do with being a real bass player or not. But you're definately not a real bass players if you don't acknowledge that using a pick is just another way of playing, not better nor worse.. So get off your high horse wannabe musicial genius and actually learn something about real music, alright?
chazmeister1 Says:
Mar 9, 2010 - He's the most underrated bassist ever. People don't seem to appreciate him, just because he uses a pick
666gibb Says:
Mar 10, 2010 - wats the point in hatin on him for using a pick? picks make it easier to play different genres, depending on wat song i play, i use a pic, or use my fingers, or play slap, u just need to see wat suits u best, and whether it will help u play ur chosen genre or not.
70sdude117 Says:
Mar 10, 2010 - @bassist4lif31 god your an idiot do you even play bass its just a diffrent type of playing some times i use a pick with a bass it dosent matter
RansakedBassist Says:
Mar 11, 2010 - I really am getting tired of the whole "bassists shouldnt use a pick" Why would you ever be that close minded as a musician. Just because you couldnt ever get picking motions down doesnt mean you gotta be a little bitch. And just because you can speed pluck at 90 miles an houir with your figers doesnt give you any right to put yourself on a pedestal.
metwestm Says:
Mar 11, 2010 - Real bassists play in real bands, what the fuck band did you make 100million dollars playing in dumbass ?
unamericano Says:
Mar 11, 2010 - I think it's because a lot of bassists that use picks are guitarists who switched to bass and never made the effort to learn fingerstyle. Or at least that's the common perception. I, for one, cannot use a pick. I can do the motion just fine with my nail but a peicce of plastic between my fingers doesn't feel right. I agree that there is a time and a place for it, but a good musician is always expanding his horizons and adapting them to his/her playing.
danbobdave Says:
Mar 12, 2010 - Okay, so bassists can't use a pick? Does that mean Eddie can't use a drill? And Newsted can't punch his pickups? Picks are used because they make a different noise and whether or not pick bassists can fingerpick is irrelevant if the music is good.
neverscrub12 Says:
Mar 13, 2010 - seriously why is it bad to use a pick?
riggsbr1 Says:
Mar 14, 2010 - Right the FUCK on! Plus there are plenty of bassists that are mixing techniques i.e. Emma (Sick Puppies) Rhino (Mudvayne) etc. There are plenty of great pickers out there: My boy Duff above, Chancellor, Caxide (ISIS), Gould (FNM), Newsted, Henkka (COB)....and the list goes on.
riggsbr1 Says:
Mar 14, 2010 - MMMMMno. i would have to disagree with your first statement; I can do both, but I prefer picking and finger tapping. It all depends on what sound you want and what style works for you, not what some Youtube douche bag tells you.
riggsbr1 Says:
Mar 14, 2010 - I appreciate him because he uses a pick, sounds wicked sick kick-ass.
riggsbr1 Says:
Mar 14, 2010 - Says who? You?!! Haha. C'mon teach me.
unamericano Says:
Mar 14, 2010 - Eh, agreed for the most part. I just hear the guitarist switching to bass story more often. I prefer fingerstyle cause of the control, and while I do love the sound of a pick you don't necessarily need one to get it. But that's just what I do. I won't complain if someone uses a pick so long as it's not the only thing they do. Same goes for slap or tapping.
GiJoePSX Says:
Mar 15, 2010 - people dont know music...they judge before thinking...sad i think...its all music i think :)
polishpirate123 Says:
Mar 15, 2010 - The reason alot of bassist say that other bassist cant use picks is cuz people complain about their fingers hurting while fingerpicking so they resort to using picks Alot of bassist think its a bitch move.
ndongousman Says:
Mar 15, 2010 - a solo..... ???????
Madelaine2121 Says:
Mar 17, 2010 - DUFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF :) loooovvvvvveee himmmm sooo mucccccccch and slasssssh : )
831Beltran Says:
Mar 17, 2010 - Why do you guys argue about using picks for bass? Fingers and picks give different sounds, therefore both are useful in different ways. And for those of you who say "picks suck" and all that, say that to Duff, look where he's gotten by using a pick, a bassist for one of the best 80s band period. A real bassist knows that using a pick doesn't make one "suck" in any way.
watuchie Says:
Mar 18, 2010 - Mmmm, people who say picks suck, need to fucking learn about bass, and well music in general. Picks and fingers ALWAYS SOUND DIFFERENT! AND depending what STYLE? And SOUND you're going for? USE THEM ACCORDINGLY! However, I will not, and do not deny, that finger style ALLOWS you to play better (simple fact, you can strum with four fingers, instead of one pick) but it ALL fucking depends! When I wanna get my Lemmy on? I pick it out! When I'm getting solid low end grooves? I PLUCK!
cliffburton993 Says:
Mar 7, 2010 - i use i pick and i can do a lo tof stuff with it...
